TRIPPING
A Rich History of Canoe Tripping in Algonquin Park
Tanamakoon has a long-standing tradition of canoe tripping in Algonquin Park. Generations of campers and staff have explored the lakes and landscapes of Algonquin, guided by enthusiastic and skilled canoe trippers and counselors.
Campers from grade one to grade four embark on overnight canoe trips, often experiencing this adventure for the first time. Grade five campers have the opportunity for three-day trips, while those in grades six to ten can choose from longer trips extending from 4 days to our 2 week and 1 month canoe trip programs.
Campers in the older age groups indicate their preferred trip length, which is confirmed upon arrival at camp. Forms for these campers are sent out in the spring of each year.
Canoe tripping is an exciting and essential aspect of the Tanamakoon experience!
About Our Extended Canoe Trips
Camp Tanamakoon offers a number of extended canoe trips. Two and four-week canoe trips are an option for our oldest campers. These trips are sent outside of Algonquin Park to other beautiful locations in Ontario. Our two–week trips have explored locations like Temagami and Killarney Provincial Park. Our 4–week trips are a white-water river experience ending in Moosonee, Ontario. Campers who sign up for the 4-week canoe trip will undergo whitewater canoe training prior to embarking on their trip. Campers will take part in the food planning, packing and preparation. These are an amazing opportunity for Campers interested in becoming canoe trip leaders at Tanamakoon. Extended trips are to be pre-registered for under the Register tab on the website.
